Evan Sherrard shared an amazing thought in this hub which left me reeling. That theism should be viewed like sexism and racism - ie a negative thing that we need to repent from and reframe our thinking about.
I was reminded about a saying that if you meet the Buddha on the road, Kill him.
I was also reminded of a very influential book for me in the 80s which was the autobiography of Harry Williams called Some Day I will find you (I think that is the name!?). Anyway my memory of the book was that in 17 years of therapy, this clergyman went through a process of killing 'God'. It was only at the end of that time that he discovered that in fact he had killed an idol, and in doing so found God.
For me at the time coming out of a charismatic mindset which was increasingly unable to address the issues I was dealing with. It felt much the same - that the God I knew was dying or I was killing him and that I had lost my way. But in the process I found god and a pathway to follow.
